Overs to Balls Converter
Convert completed overs and loose balls into a total count of legal deliveries.
Formula
Total Legal Balls = (Complete Overs x 6) + Additional Balls
Example
- 17 overs and 4 balls.
- (17 x 6) + 4 = 102 + 4 = 106 legal balls.
Frequently asked questions
Why can I not enter 6 in the additional balls field?
Six legal balls make a complete over, so the value would belong in the overs field instead. Only 0 to 5 are valid.
Do wides and no-balls add to the total?
No. Only legal deliveries count towards the ball total, which is why an over can take more than six deliveries to complete.
Why convert overs to balls?
Every rate in cricket is really worked out from legal balls. Turning overs into balls is the first step in calculating a run rate, economy rate or required run rate correctly, because 17.4 overs means 17 overs and 4 balls, not 17.4.
Overs to balls chart (1 to 50 overs)
Every over has six legal balls, so the number of balls is the overs × 6. For a part over, add the figure after the point: 23.4 overs is 23 × 6 + 4 = 142 balls. Longer innings work the same way: 72 overs is 432 balls, 80 overs is 480 and a 90-over Test day is 540.
